PHOTOS: Germany Routs Brazil 7-1, Devastating Fans of the Host Nation

Much was made of the World Cup semi match between the host nation of Brazil and Germany in the days leading up to the game. The Brazilians were favored to advance, but the Germans were anything but scrappy underdogs.

Predictions about the outcome ran the gamut, with the only clear consensus being that it would be one helluva a match. And in some ways, it was, just not in a way that anyone could have ever predicted.

Germany scored goal after goal, amassing an unfathomable 5-0 lead in the first 30 minutes of play. It was truly astonishing to see such a dominant Brazil team completely out of the game before the first half ended. Playing out the second half was unbearable, at least for the devastated fans in attendance.

Before the match was over Germany would tack on two more goals, putting them up 7-0 before Brazil finally got on the scoreboard. It was the most goals Brazil had ever conceded at home and just the second time it had ever conceded seven goals in any match, ever.

With absolutely no suspense remaining so early on, viewers seemed to focus on Brazil’s dejected fans—at least that seemed to be the case on social media. It wasn’t particularly mean spirited or anything, it’s just rare to watch hearts break by the thousands, all in real time.
