Jalen Ramsey and Rams reportedly ‘not close’ on extension

Los Angeles Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey has made it clear that he isn’t interested in discussing his contract extension. If the latest news out of Los Angeles is any indicator of how negotiations are going, it’s hard to blame the All-Pro cornerback for not discussing it.

Jalen Ramsey, who the Rams acquired for two first-round picks during the 2019 season, is entering his contract year. He clearly loves Los Angeles and the team plans to keep him for years to come. However, contract talks don’t seem to be going particularly well.

After landing in Los Angeles, Ramsey vowed not to hold out to gain leverage in negotiations. While he’s lived up to his word, it now looks very unlikely that a contract extension will be reached before the regular season begins.

According to ESPN’s Josina Anderson, the Rams and Ramsey aren’t close to a contract extension with training camp set to conclude in a few weeks. However, both sides still seem confident an agreement will be reached, given it’s very early in the negotiating process.

The Rams are in a difficult situation due to their cap space. The club released Todd Gurley and Clay Matthews this offseason, while also trading receiver Brandin Cooks. All three moves saved the team significant money, but Jared Goff and Aaron Donald’s contracts still complicate matters.
