Ravens TE Dennis Pitta to retire after latest hip injury
It was reported earlier on Friday that Baltimore Ravens tight end Dennis Pitta suffered yet another hip injury, this time during the team’s most-recent OTAs.
According to multiple media reports, Pitta suffered a dislocated hip after sprawling out for a catch during practice this week. He initially attempted to get up off the turf, but couldn’t walk off the field under his own power.
It’s the third time in his career that Pitta has separated that hip. It now also likely means the end of what was once a promising NFL career.
“The tight end is expected to retire after suffering a dislocated hip during Ravens OTAs, the third he’s suffered in his career,†NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo on Friday.
This is incredibly unfortunate news for Pitta, who put up career highs in receptions (86) and yards (729) last season. That came on the heels of the tight end playing in a grand total of seven games over the past three seasons after suffering multiple hip injuries during this very same span.
Pitta will finish his career having caught 224 passes for 2,098 yards and 13 touchdowns. He was a fourth-round pick of the Ravens back in 2010 out of BYU.
