Robbie Gould Pining for Chicago

San Francisco 49ers kicker Robbie Gould has made some pertinent comments about his playing future.

Robbie Gould is currently in a standoff with the 49ers, who want to place the franchise tag on him.

The 14 year NFL veteran will become a free agent this summer, and appears to want out of San Francisco.

But where, if not the 49ers, for Robbie Gould? Chicago, of course.

The Chicago native spent his first 11 NFL seasons playing for the Bears. He still returns home to Chicago, where his family lives,  during the offseason.

At 36 years old, Gould’s decisions will be increasingly influenced by his family life, as he outlines.

“It’s a complicated situation,” Gould said.

“The way I’ve kind of approached it is, I want to spend time with my family. And I let my agent handle it, and if anything comes up that I have to make a decision or be in the know, he’ll call me and let me know. But right now there’s nothing to really know, and I’m just enjoying being home and being in Chicago.

“I’m at a point in my career where my family is what’s going to dictate the decisions that I make.”

Gould has skipped this years offseason workouts. Although, his pending franchise tender means that he cannot be fined. With 82/85 field goals made since 2016, the 49ers are keen to hold on to such a reliable kicker.

“This city’s been incredible,” Gould said, via NBC Chicago.

“No matter where I’ve gone, no matter where I’ve lived, no matter where I’ve played, Chicago has always been home.”

Gould could be this season Le’Veon Bell, abstaining from team activities until the 49ers change their mind.
