Situation is Bleak for Robert Griffin III in Washington

It’s no secret that things have been deteriorating for Robert Griffin III in Washington.

Now, thanks to a report from Adam Schefter and Dianna Russini of ESPN, we know the truth: The only person who wants RG3 to remain as the starting quarterback for Redskins is owner Daniel Snyder.

“High-ranking Washington Redskins front office officials and coaches want to move on from quarterback Robert Griffin III, but are meeting resistance from team ownership, per team and league sources.”

The Redskins have even reportedly been in contact with some teams about a potential trade for the embattled quarterback—a scenario that would appear to be the best solution for all parties involved.

The report also states that it is “increasingly apparent” that RG3 has lost his starting job, as we’ve been suspecting since earlier this week when conflicting reports about his concussion made the rounds.

Griffin isn’t expected to be the starter, per Schefter and Russini, even if he is cleared for action for Week 1. The men running football operations, including the coaches, are done trying to make it work with the beleaguered quarterback and are ready to make a fresh start with, it appears, Kirk Cousins, who started in Week 3 for the franchise.

It’s going to be interesting to see how much interest—if any—other teams might have in Griffin, who has been a shell of his rookie self since returning from his ACL injury.
