Steelers LB Ryan Shazier suffers grim-looking back injury
Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier was injured early in the first quarter when he went in to tackle Cincinnati Bengals receiver Josh Malone.
Leading with his head first, eyes down, he collided with one of his own players. When the play was over, Shazier immediately reached for his back and wiggled both arms into the air.
His legs did not appear to move after the hit.

Pittsburgh teammates quickly took a knee in support of Shazier as medical personnel tended to him.
“I was 10 feet away and immediately you could see that he could not move the lower half of his body,†Steve Young said on ESPN’s halftime show.Â
#50 Ryan Shazier has been taken to the locker room to be evaluated for a back injury.

UPDATE: #50 Ryan Shazier has been taken to the hospital for further evaluation on his back.
He will not return to tonight’s game & there will be no further updates at this time.

He was initially taken to the locker room for a back injury evaluation before being transported by ambulance to a local area hospital.
Shazier, a 2014 first-round pick out of Ohio State, has started all 12 games for the Steelers this season.
