Steelers RB Le’Veon Bell Missed Multiple Drug Tests
Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell missed the first two games of the 2015 season following an arrest for DUI and marijuana possession, and now he’s facing a potential four-game suspension to start the 2016 season.
Not an ideal situation for a player at the NFL’s most disposable position going into the final year of his contract.
This week rumors turned to actual reports, with the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport confirming that Bell is, in fact, likely to be suspended by the league for violating the substance abuse policy. As it turns out, Bell missed not one, but several drug tests.
For his part, Bell has flatly denied any and all wrongdoing. Speaking to a Pittsburgh radio host in June, Bell said the following in response to what were still just rumors:
“I don’t know what you are talking about,” he said at the time. “I am fine. I haven’t missed any drug tests, failed any drug tests. I can’t keep talking about the drug test. I probably already said too much about it so I really can’t keep talking about it. People are going to say what they want to say on the internet. It is people who really have nothing to do. I don’t get upset or let it bother me.”
Bell has yet to issue a formal public response to the news, but apparently plans to appeal the suspension once it’s handed down. Though it’s hard to imagine he’ll find a sympathetic ear as a repeat offender with multiple missed tests.
