Texas Hasn’t Fired Charlie Strong. Yet.

In somewhat shocking news, Texas has reportedly fired head coach Charlie Strong following a demoralizing 24-21 overtime loss to a formerly 1-9 Kansas Jayhawks.

Responding to this report, Pat Forde of Yahoo Sports said it was not true, citing “multiple sources.”

Other top reporters shared similar news, with many stating the Longhorns would not fire Strong until after the season but that it’s pretty much a done deal at this point.

Strong, in his third season with the Longhorns, was once the darling of the coaching world as head coach of the Louisville Cardinals.

Following the Houston Cougars’ huge upset of the No. 5-ranked Cardinals, rumor spread that Texas boosters were putting pressure on the Athletic Department to hire Tom Herman as head coach of the Longhorns.

Following Saturday’s loss to the Jayhawks, a solemn Strong seemed to know the writing was on the wall for him.

Strong, a former star defensive coordinator for the Florida Gators under Urban Meyer, will not be out of work long if he has been fired or does get fired after the season. But this leaves an already reeling Longhorn program in a state of disarray, regardless.
