The Pittsburgh Pirates, hottest team in the MLB, have acquired starting pitcher Chris Archer in a down-to-the-wire, last minute trade with the Rays that gives the hottest team in baseball another weapon to utilize.

Archer has finished in the American League’s top three in strikeouts for three consecutive seasons. He is also the only pitcher in Rays history to record three 200-strikeout seasons. In other words, Archer is no slouch and is joining a team that is red hot.

The Pirates have surged to come within 3 1/2 games of being in post season contention and this addition will only help that quest.

In term of betting, the Pirates surge has yet to be reflected in the futures. They are preparing to enter a series with another red hot club in the Chicago Cubs. This series will be a big test for the surging Bucs.
