Trent Richardson Needs Knee Surgery

The slim possibility that former first-round bust Trent Richardson would find his way on the Baltimore Ravens roster decreased even more on Thursday.

Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun is reporting that Richardson will need arthroscopic surgery on an injured knee and will miss some time.

While the Ravens’ beat writer did go on to say that the procedure is minor, it definitely doesn’t bode well for Richardson’s chances in Baltimore.

It was just last month that head coach John Harbaugh indicated that conditioning itself was an issue for the much-maligned running back.

Richardson, the No. 3 overall pick of the Cleveland Browns back in 2012, has not played a regular season snap in the NFL since his short-lived stint with the Indianapolis Colts came to a conclusion back in 2014.

He did attempt to latch on with the Oakland Raiders last year, but a lack of any sort of production during the preseason led to his demise in Northern California.

After putting up 1,317 total yards and 12 touchdowns for the Browns back in 2012, Richardson’s career has been on a downward spiral nearly unmatched by any top pick in recent league history.

He averaged a disturbingly low 3.1 yards per rush in less than two seasons with the Colts before being released following the 2014 campaign. Unable to catch on with Oakland last year, most figured Richardson’s career was over.

Though, the Ravens decided to give him one final opportunity this summer. It now appears that said chance might also be short-lived.
