Trevor Lawrence Must See Off Competition From Minshew

One month away from the start of the regular season, Trevor Lawrence hasn’t yet guaranteed his Jaguars starting berth.

The No. overall pick is currently competing with Gardner Minshew for Week 1 reps, according to head coach Urban Meyer.

The idea that Trevor Lawrence wont start Week 1 for Jacksonville is unthinkable. However, his first-year head coach was full of praise for former starter Minshew.

Meyer said that both Trevor Lawrence and Gardner Minshew will get reps in their preseason opener against the Cleveland Browns.

“He’s earned my respect. I love that guy,” Meyer said of Minshew. “He’s a warrior, competitor. He’s a fighter. I told him that. I just got great respect for Minshew. He brings it every day, every day.”

Of course, this could be typical head coach posturing around the quarterback competition.

“Is there really a chance?” Meyer said of Trevor Lawrence not starting. “I think we’ll answer that as we get closer,” Meyer said.

Either way, it won’t take long for Lawrence to stamp his authority on the NFL next season.
