UCLA versus Arizona Preview

The ranked number 24 Arizona will head to California to take on the 25 ranked UCLA on Saturday in a game that could help decide who will finish on top of the Pac 12 South division.

Both teams are riding high  coming off some huge wins.  UCLA defeated Arizona’s neighbors, Arizona State 45-43.  Arizona got a win over Southern Cal 45-43.  Both games were nail biters, and both these teams now feel like they have momentum on their side heading into this game.

Excitement also surrounds this game due to the insanity than ensued when these two teams met last year.  Arizona dominated UCLA in this game 48-12.    A brawl also ensued during this game when a streaker rushed onto the field.  (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJ6oqdN1LG4)

UCLA was left feeling embarrassed by the whole incident and their is a sentiment among the team that in this meeting they must get the better of Arizona and redeem themselves of the chaos of last year’s meeting.  Arizona’s offense is beast and will be a key to victory.  They have put up 553.6 yards per game on average.  That is good enough for number 4 in the nation.   Their defense on the other hand leaves a whole lot to be desired.  They are 110 in the nation giving up 484 yards per game.

UCLA’s key offensive weapon is their rushing.  Johnathan Franklin has rushed for 1,042 yards all ready this year.  Franklin should have huge success against a Arizona defensive that gives up 167 yards on the ground per game.  UCLA does not have the best passing game in the NCAA but should not have any trouble against Arizona’s defense.  Arizona does not bring the pass rush well only racking up 12 sacks on the season.  They also have trouble defending against the pass and are ranked 110th in the nation in defense.

Arizona will be the best offensive team UCLA has had to defend against this year.  Arizona has a great running back in Ka’Deem Carey who has ran for 961 on 183 carries for a average of 120 yards per game.  Matt Scott and Austin Hill also have great chemistry.  Last week Scott connected with Carey 10 times for 259 yards, a very impressive stat.

Considering these factors this game looks like it is going to be a shootout.   The odds are very close in this game with UCLA set as the favorite according to BetOnline.com with a point spread of -3.5.  The moneyline is set at +145 for Arizona and -165 for UCLA.  The over/under is set at a whopping 70.5.
