UFC 163 Aftermath Plus UFC Fight Night

We are a little under a week removed from UFC 163, and we have had plenty of time to put in perspective the results of the main event and what it might mean for both fighters.  Also, we are just a little over a week away from UFC Fight Night on FOX Sports, which we will take a brief look at.

First, is the aftermath of UFC 163.  The most anticipated fight of the night was the Featherweight Championship fight between Jose Aldo and “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung.  For those who have been under a rock the last week, Aldo won the bout in the fourth round by TKO via punches.  Aldo’s  win came when Jung swung a punch that popped his shoulder out of place.  Aldo capitalized with a flurry of punches.

Jung had appeared to lose the first three rounds but was still keeping pace.  Unfortunately, Jung got injured and got KO’ed.

The injury is a tough one for Jung who was coming off a year long injury going into this match.  This injury should not keep him out as long as his last injury.  Up next for the Korean Zombie is to begin the road back to prominence.  He will still be a ranked featherweight regardless of his loss.  He should look for a fight against a big name or another ranked fighter and pick up the ‘W’ to get right back in title contention.  The zombie is only 26 years-old and has a lot of fights left in his career.

As for Aldo, he is now firmly at the top of his division.  Aldo now has two options.  He can take a rematch against contenders he has already mowed down, or he could do what many MMA fans have been clamoring for, move up a weight class and take on the winner of Ben Henderson vs. Anthony Pettis at UFC 164.

The next UFC event is UFC Fight Night and the main event is an interesting one between Chael Sonnen and “Shogun” Rua.  Both fighters are looking to recover from some rough losses and are hoping to revitalize there careers with a high profile win.  Sonnen is the slight favorite to win in the early odds over at Bovada.  We will have a full preview of this main event next week before the fight.
