UFC 163 Preview: Aldo vs Jung
UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo puts his title on the line against Chan Sung Jung in the main event of UFC 163 that will be coming live on pay-per-view from Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.
Aldo has defended his title four times now. In his last fight, he got a controversial decision win against against former UFC Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar. Just squeaking my Edgar was not typical of Aldo who likes to dominant fights and get clear-cut victories. He look to return to these ways in his fight with Sung.
Aldo has a big punch and leg kicks that he uses to wear down opponents. Aldo will want to keep this fight standing as Jung’s striking defense is not know to be a strong suite, while Aldo has proving himself to be lethal when standing. If Jung is able to get Aldo on the ground it could spell the end for Aldo. While he has wrestling skills, they do not match Jung’s and Jung will simply wear Aldo out on the ground. If Aldo finds himself on the ground he will need to bet back to his feet ASAP.
Fan Favorite Jung, also known as the Korean Zombie, has been away for a year, but his reputation puts him right back in the title picture.
“The Korean Zombie” has some pretty impressive KOs in his highlight reel. He also is a descent overall striker. However, it is his ground-game that will help him secure a victory against Aldo.
Fighting on the ground gives Jung a submission option of victory and also the capability to wear Aldo down. Aldo has exhibited weakness when fighting on the ground, not because of lack of skill, but because of his ground-game endurance is weak.
The biggest thing that may hold Jung down in this fight is his ring-rust. Jung last five-round fight was over a year ago and has since been nursing a major injury. Jung’s rust, if there is any, may be the deciding factor in this title fight.
Aldo is the overwhelming favorite according to Bovada with a moneyline at -750. Jung’s moneyline is at +475. Catch UFC 163 on PPV tonight.
