Urban Meyer won’t comment on his future at Ohio State

Urban Meyer’s future at Ohio State has recently become a major question, but the head coach isn’t elaborating on his plans beyond the 2019 campaign.

Leading up to the Big Ten Championship Game, a report emerged that Meyer plans to step down after next season. When asked about it, per Kyle Rowland of the Toledo Blade, Meyer refused to comment.

If true, assistant coach Ryan Day is the expected front-runner to replace Meyer. Day served as the interim boss during Meyer’s three-game suspension in September.

The “no comment” response is notable because earlier in 2018, Meyer provided an emphatic answer that he would return next year. This was an opportunity for him to silence any discussions moving forward.

Given his reported health issues, though, Meyer stepping down wouldn’t be a surprise. Severe headaches have caused visible pain to him throughout the season.

For now, the college football world can only wait for an announcement that may or may not happen after the Big Ten title.
