Victor Oladipo Likely Out for the Season with Knee Injury

Indiana Pacers All-Star guard Victor Oladipo could be out for the season after injuring himself on Wednesday night.

Against the Toronto Raptors, Victor Oladipo attempted to intercept a pass to Pascal Siakam. He fell awkwardly on his leg and slumped to the ground.

The initial assessment was not promising, and Victor Oladipo will have an MRI scan on his right knee on Thursday.

Although the extent of the injury is not yet known, it will certainly require surgery. Pacers coach Nate McMillan spoke about the need to support Oladipo through the injury.

“It is a serious injury and we’ll know more after the MRI,”  McMillan said.

“We’re not going to speculate. It’s a tough situation. That kid has a beautiful spirit about him. He has always been one to try and to lift us up. We’ve got to lift him now.”

The injury couldn’t have come at a worse time for Indiana, who are third in the Eastern Conference. The loss of their key player puts them at a huge disadvantage compared to the strong teams they’re competing with.

Toronto Raptors’ Pascal Siakam said he didn’t see the injury as it occured.

“I didn’t see what happened,” Siakam said.

“Watching the replay, he stuck his leg while he was falling. That’s when he hit me. It’s just an unfortunate situation. It’s really scary, it’s tough.”

Oladipo and the Pacers have gone from strength to strength since he joined from the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2017. The player made his first All-Star appearance in 2017 – 2018, and he is the team’s leading scorer this season.

His 19.2 points per game have helped Indiana to a 32 – 15 record for the season. Despite his injury, they defeated the Toronto Raptors 110 – 106.
