Way-Too-Early Heisman Trophy Odds
Early Heisman Trophy odds are painting a picture to a race for the prestigious honor that looks very similar to last year Heisman race picture.
The likes of Deshaun Watson, Christian McCaffrey, Baker Mayfield, and this year’s Heisman trophy winner, Derrick Henry all top the odds for the trophy. Watson, McCaffrey and Henry (the eventual winner) were among the finalists in 2015.
Trends are not in the favor of prior year favorites winning the Heisman Trophy. For example, in 2014 Jameis Winston won the award, while Marcus Mariota remained the favorite prior to the season begging and as the season chugged along. The likes of Cam Newton, Robert Griffin III and Johnny Manziel also won the award without starting out among the early favorites.
The odds may change quite a bit over the coming months, as it is possible that many of the top favorites will go ahead and begin their NFL careers.
