Zion Williamson, Porzingiz, to Return From Quarantine This Week

NBA stars Zion Williamson and Kristaps Porzingiz will be out of quarantine in time for the season’s restart.

Both players had to be placed into quarantine over the weekend due to safety concerns. For Zion Williamson, this was planned. For Porzingis however, it was a matter of forgetting to get tested.

Zion Williamson had to leave the NBA bubble in Orlando due to an urgent family matter. He was tested every day since he left on July 16, and the results were negative each time. He is in line to rejoin his New Orleans Pelicans teammates on Tuesday.

Dallas Mavericks star Kristaps Porzingiz is also negative for Covid-19, despite missing one test. He will return to team activities on Monday.

“The most important thing is we hope everything’s OK with him,” Pelicans forward Derrick Favors said Saturday.

“He went away for personal reasons. So, it’s good to see. Whatever it was, hope everything went fine and OK and he’s back with us. And I know everybody’s excited to have him back. I know he’s excited to be back.”

Williamson is averaging 23.6 points and 6.8 rebounds in 19 games this season for the Pelicans.

Dallas coach Rick Carlisle says that Kristaps Porzingiz feels bad about engandering his teammates with his mistakes.

“He was very contrite and really felt bad about letting the team down,” Carlisle said, via the Dallas Morning News. “Something like this is something that I think all of us can take as a cautionary tale. We’ve just got to remember that the details of the situation that we’re involved in are very, very important.”

NBA teams will hope this was the last of the slip ups heading into the restart of the season. Play resumes on Thursday with the New Orleans Pelicans VS the Utah Jazz.
