Marshawn Lynch Pondering Un-Retirement

On the very same day the 2016 NFL regular season opens, some rather big news is surfacing surrounding one of the league’s elite teams.

According to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, retired running back Marshawn Lynch is debating a possible return to the Seattle Seahawks.

“Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Lynch is currently “up in the air” about returning to the NFL,” Florio reported. “The source said that Week Four or Week Five could be the hot spots for a possible unretirement.”

Lynch, 30, announced his retirement from the NFL during Super Bowl 50 this past February. Since then, he hasn’t done or said anything that suggests he’s considering a return to the NFL.

There’s a lot of moving parts here.

Seattle still holds Lynch’s contractual rights for the 2016 season at $9 million. The team also exhausted three draft picks on running backs and has Thomas Rawls returning from injury at that position.

Would the team welcome him back? That’s not yet known. If not, could a trade be in the cards should he return?

When healthy, Lynch has been one of the most-productive running backs over the past several seasons. He tallied over 7,600 total yards and 65 touchdowns in five-plus campaigns with the Seahawks.

Though, Lynch was limited to just nine games due to a multitude of injuries a season ago.

We will have further updates as they are made available.
