Kate Upton Is Very Angry On Behalf Of Tigers Ace Justin Verlander
Detroit Tigers ace Justin Verlander did not win the American League Cy Young Award, losing it to former teammate Rick Porcello, now of the Boston Red Sox. Kate Upton — Verlander’s fiance — was displeased. The supermodel shared her displeasure with a rather salty tweet.
“Hey @MLB I thought I was the only person allowed to f***Â
@JustinVerlander ?! What 2 writers didn’t have him on their ballot?â€
Per MLB.com, Verlander actually had 14 first-place votes to Porcello’s 8. But the Red Sox ace gained ground on his former teammate with more second place votes, certainly aided by the fact hat Verlander was omitted from two ballots.
Porcello finished the year 22-4 with a 3.15 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 189 strikeouts. Verlander was only 16-9, but Porcello benefited from playing on a much better team.
Verlander’s ERA (3.04) and WHIP (1.00) were both better than Porcello’s. He also struck out significantly more batters (254).
It’s hard to feel too bad for Verlander here. He already has a Cy Young and MVP Award. Additionally, as Upton so eloquently detailed, he enjoys a nice home life.
But in reality, Upton has a point. Voting Porcello ahead of Verlander is one thing. But leaving him completely off of the ballot? We can only hope that those two writers took Verlander out for a nice dinner before voting.
