World Series of Poker Set to Start
The World Series of Poker kicks-off on Tuesday and the event is much different than previous editions. There are events every day up until the middle of June. And the nine finalists at the biggie – the Main Event – will take place on July 18. There are all sorts of games leading up to the higher-money games.
“The focus of the schedule remains squarely on two core principles: the biggest prize pools possible and diversity in offerings to provide something for everyone,†said Jack Effel, the WSOP’s Tournament Director working his 13th WSOP, and marking his 20th year in poker. “The 48th running of the globe’s biggest poker series promises to deliver on these core principles and ensure another action packed summer at the Rio. Eight new events have been added this year, including a “tag-team” event. The tag team event was introduced last year and was popular. But this year the stakes have been raised to a $10,000 per team entry fee. The tournament last three days and is for teams of two to four players.
For the first time the World Series of Poker will offer games in the $300 buy-in range. In 2015, the WSOP began offering games in the $500 range and they were a hit with players.

The 2017 WSOP marks the 48th running of the game’s most prestigious annual tournament. They will be looking to exceed last year’s total of more than 107,000 players.
