Knicks expected to make a run at Lebron this summer
LeBron James will be the biggest prize of NBA free agency during the summer, and the New York Knicks plan to make a run at the Cleveland Cavaliers star.
According to Marc Berman of the New York Post, the Knicks are prepared to open cap space if LeBron shows interest in joining the team. Berman cited new coach David Fizdale as the reason James might consider New York.
The 15-year veteran certainly isn’t likely to land in the Big Apple, but the Knicks can easily carve out the necessary room on the salary sheet.
If both Enes Kanter and Kyle O’Quinn opt out of their contract, New York opens approximately $23 million, per HoopsHype. Then, the team could unload Courtney Lee and his $12.25 million deal, likely by attaching a draft pick to a trade.
While the NBA world shouldn’t expect LeBron to sign with the Knicks, they’d be foolish not to try attracting the league’s best player.
