Panthers superstar Christian McCaffrey will finally return in Week 9
The Carolina Panthers have moved through the last several weeks without star running back Christian McCaffrey.
All that has finally changed as the Panthers have activated McCaffrey to the roster ahead of Week 9 action against the Kansas City Chiefs, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.
Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey, fully healed (apparently) from a high ankle sprain suffered in Week Two against the Buccaneers, officially returns to the active roster, one day before the Panthers face the Chiefs in Kansas City.
McCaffrey has missed the last six weeks due to an ankle injury that he suffered against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Panthers have gone the cautious route with the injury, as he’s a massive part of the team’s long-term future.
The 24-year-old inked a four-year, $64 million extension over this past offseason, which is the largest contract for a running back in league history. After initially the Panthers initially won their first two games without McCaffrey, the Panthers have dropped their last three straight contests.
The All-Pro running back is arguably one of the league’s best players. He has become a crucial part of the Panthers’ offensive game plan behind his dual-threat ability. He’s coming off becoming the third running back to register at least 1,000 rushing yards and 1,000 receiving yards.
Mike Davis has been serviceable in his absence with more than 50 rushing yards four times in the last five games and four total touchdowns. The Panthers will likely temper McCaffrey’s workload in his first game back to avoid any possible setback.
