Mike McDaniel admits Dolphins ‘not even close to good enough’
During the 2023 NFL season, the Miami Dolphins had one of the most prolific offenses in the NFL. Star quarterback Tua Tagovailoa came into his own, and the receiving corps reached an elite level, with Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle leading the way.
With the Dolphins showing so much promise offensively last season, Miami had high hopes of being a potential Super Bowl title contender during the 2024 campaign. The team had secured the long-term futures of its offensive stars and was ready to take the next step.
Unfortunately, things turned for the worst early into the regular season, with Tagovailoa suffering another concussion, which cast some doubt on whether he should continue playing the game. Tagovailoa has suffered multiple concussions in his short time with the Dolphins, and none of them have been pretty, as they seem to be taking a toll on the young quarterback.
Without Tagovailoa leading the charge at quarterback, the offense has fallen flat in a big way. There is no telling if they’ll be able to rebound this season, especially after a costly loss to the lowly Tennessee Titans on Monday night. Head coach Mike McDaniel admits that changes need to be made because his team is nowhere near good enough to compete on a weekly basis right now via ESPN.
“I have to look at the tape. There was a tremendous disconnect between preparation and execution,” McDaniel said. “So, there was a multitude of contributors to it, I believe, but I have to check the tape out. Bottom line is it doesn’t matter what we’re doing behind the scenes. On the field, that’s not even close to good enough, so you just have to go back to the drawing board and assess very critically.”
At 1-3, the Dolphins are currently at the bottom of the AFC East division standings with the rival New England Patriots (1-3), which is obviously not where they wanted to be with such high expectations coming into the season.

Only time will tell if this team can turn things around, but it is safe to say that things are not looking good in Miami. The Dolphins’ 2024 campaign might be a lost cause.
