AL East Action: June 17, 2013

The Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees have the day off today, but there’s still plenty of AL East action with the Baltimore Orioles taking on the Detroit Tigers and the Toronto Blue Jays taking on the Colorado Rockies.

Baltimore Orioles vs. Detroit Tigers

The Baltimore Orioles will have their hands full on the road tonight as they take on Detroit pitcher Max Scherzer, who is 9-0 with a 3.19 ERA so far this season. He has also won four out of his last five games while striking out 38 batters over 36 innings.

“Don’t get me wrong — I love being 9-0, but it’s more important that we (win),” Scherzer said. “For me, it’s all about going out there and pitching deep into the game and (being) effective. The way I look at success is how well I pitch (and not the amount of personal victories).”

Baltimore starter Jason Hammel will take the mound tonight. Hammel has struggled this year, posting a 7-4 record with a 5.24 ERA. Here are all the gambling trends for the Orioles, courtesy of OddsShark.com.
