Brooklyn Nets in for Anthony Davis?

The Brooklyn Nets seem determined to sign a star, and reports suggest that they’re preparing a package for Anthony Davis.

Despite not being an obvious destination for the NBA’s greatest, Brooklyn has been linked with a few of them lately.

On Sunday, the Nets were linked with a free-agent move for Kyrie Irving. According to Fox Sports’ Chris Broussard, they would like to sign Kyrie Irving as well as Anthony Davis.

Broussard contends that the Nets’ package for Anthony Davis is centered around D’Angelo Russell.

“Brooklyn is going as hard after Anthony Davis as anybody,” Broussard said.

“A package of like D’Angelo Russell, Jarrett Allen, who’s a nice piece, shot-blocker, athletic at the rim, nice for this day and age in basketball. They’ve got the 17th and 27th pick. Now, Brooklyn, their dream is to pair AD with Kyrie. They really only want to try to get AD if they got Kyrie, because that will help them keep AD.”

Last season, Davis controversially requested a trade away from the New Orleans Pelicans. He and his agent got into trouble over the public nature of the request. Since then, the conencus has been that Davis will leave the Pelicans eventually.

David Griffin has gone on record saying that the prospect of playing with No. pick Zion williamson will keep Davis happy. However, this won’t realistically be enough to persuade him to stay.

It’s also unlikely that the Nets’ plan will materialize. Their desire to play Davis and Irving together depends on both players signing. Their trade package involving Russell is problematic, as he is an unrestricted free agent.

If they did land Davis, they have to remember that he becomes a free agent in 2020. Will he stick around if the Nets fail to land Irving after a year?
