Andrew Bogut: Kerr Thinks Outside The Box

Andrew Bogut doesn’t think that the Golden State Warriors’ injury problems will be a problem for head coach Steve Kerr.

Heading into Game 1 of the NBA Finals, Golden State is without All-Stars Kevin Durant and DeMarcus Cousins.

Kevin Durant continues to be held back by a calf injury, while Cousins is recovering from a torn quad muscle.

Andrew Bogut, who won Golden State’s first title in 2015, trusts Kerr to find a solution.

“He thinks outside the box,” said Andrew Bogut.

Kerr will need to do just that, as his starting lineup is not certain. Bogut’s experience will now prove even more crucial, although Kerr was keen to praise his younger big men as well.

“We have a lot of guys who have played in the championship round – Bogut, Jordan Bell, Looney,” Kerr said.

“If his rotation is X-Y-Z, he’s not afraid to go A-B-C,” Bogut said.

“There’s a lot of coaches who get in their own way a lot, whereas he will randomly put in a guy in the starting line-up who hasn’t started all year.”

Bogut didn’t expect to be here at all following his retirement from the NBA and relocation to the Australian NBL. As a result, he will be keen to contribute as much as he possibly can in the finals.

“Whether it is one minute, no minutes or 10 minutes, I’ll just play to the best of my ability and as hard as I can and be a good voice on the bench,” he said.

Discussing Bogut’s praise of his tactical nous, Kerr pointed towards the good people he is surrounded by.

“When you have a combination of talent and really good human beings on the roster and a good coaching staff who knows what’s going on and you collaborate, it’s a pretty powerful force,” Kerr said.
