Cowboys WR Dez Bryant May Return After Team’s Bye Week
It has been quite the rollercoaster ride for the Dallas Cowboys over the past two weeks and not in a good way. First of all, two-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Dez Bryant goes down with a severe foot injury in Week 1 against the New York Giants and then star quarterback Tony Romo suffers a broken collarbone in Week 2 in the win over the Philadelphia Eagles.
Fortunately, the Cowboys seem to have received some good news about one of their two offensive stars. It appears Bryant may be able to return much sooner than expected from his foot injury.
According to Cowboys executive vice president, Stephen Jones, Bryant could return after the team’s bye week, via DallasNews.com:
“Our prognosis has never changed,” Jones told the Ben and Skin show on 105.3 The Fan [KRLD-FM]. “I know there have been a lot of people who have doctors on their media staff and like to speculate on these things, but we’ve been pretty consistent from Day One. At first we thought maybe four to six [weeks] and that changed to six to eight. By the next day we were pretty much thinking six to eight.
“We really feel like it’s a very fair goal to think that Dez will be back after the bye.”
As for Romo, the collarbone injury will keep him out at least the next seven games. Romo was placed on the injured reserve/designated to return list this week and now backup Brandon Weeden will shoulder the load under center for Dallas moving forward.
In Week 3, the Cowboys will face perhaps their toughest opponent thus far. It’ll be a battle for the unbeatens on Sunday with the Cowboys hosting the Matt Ryan’s Atlanta Falcons.
The Falcons have been impressive during the first two weeks of the season beating the same two teams in the NFC East that the Cowboys have in the Giants and Eagles. Ryan and company will have a difficult offense to contain with Julio Jones getting off to a quick start to the season already racking up 276 receiving yards and two touchdowns on 22 receptions.
According to Sportsbook.ag, the Falcons slightly favored on the road against the Cowboys with a -1.5 point spread. Although the Cowboys would be the better all-around team if healthy, Atlanta is superior coming into this matchup and should come out with the win.
