Dallas Mavericks Blow Out Golden State Warriors

The Mavericks were 3.5 point favorites at home against the Golden State Warriors on Saturday night, and while the Warriors are the better team with the superior record, they continued their disturbing midseason slump by losing 116-91. The Warriors started out as one of the hottest teams in the NBA, but have cooled off considerably since then, losing their last four games, all of which have been on the road. The Warriors are a shaky road team at best, owning a 14-15 record against opponents in their home building. Still,  at 30-21, the Warriors are likely playoff-bound, and need to figure out what’s ailing them quickly.

“It’s very frustrating,” Golden State forward David Lee said after the loss. “Not only losing four games in a row, but in the manner that we lost them. Every team goes through those ups and downs during the season. The key for us is to figure it out sooner rather than later.”

Though the Warriors own the better record (the Mavs are only 22-28 on the season), both teams are pretty much equal when it comes to betting the spread. The Mavs are 28-21 ATS, while the Warriors are 27-21-1 ATS. Here were some other betting trends for both teams heading into Saturday’s match, courtesy of OddsShark.com:

The Warriors are a classic team in need of the All-Star break. They’re slumping terribly, losing to teams by 20-plus points nightly on the road, and need to rest some of their best players. Still, their long-term odds make for an intriguing bet. For instance, the Warriors are 50-1 odds to win the NBA championship, and 20-1 to win the Western Conference. While both may be far-fetched, they’re still solid value bets. With how the Warriors score, combined with their newfound dedication to team-first defensive play, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that the Dubs could win the West. Still, they’re going to have to turn things around soon if they want to stay relevant in the playoff discussion.
