Daniel Jones On Avoiding Hits As A Mobile Quarterback

Giants quarterback Daniel Jones spoke about the need to protect himself as a running quarterback as he awaits fitness tests.

Daniel Jones is ‘50-50’ to be available for Sunday’s game against the Dolphins as a result of a neck strain.

He suffered the injury in the Week 12 win over the Philadelphia Eagles. According to Daniel Jones, he only noticed the pain when the match was finished.

Against the Eagles, Jones was running the zone-read when he slid and took a hit near his neck. Earlier this season he sustained a concussion while trying to run to the end zone against Dallas.

“I think it can be [difficult]. I can definitely … something I’ve been focused on this season is to do that and to get down and avoid some of those hits,” Jones said. “Just have to continue to do that. It can be tough at times but it’s something you have to be able to do.”

The 24-year-old has a pass completion rate of 63.4% this year with ten touchdowns and seven interceptions. He has a QBR of 40.9 for 25th overall in the NFL. Jones has rushed for 298 yards and two touchdowns.

“Yeah, I think I’m going through the week preparing to play,” Jones said.

“Getting myself ready to play. Feeling good. Getting better every day. Trying to listen to what the doctors and trainers are telling me. But I’m doing good.

“I think there are obviously a series of tests and conversations with doctors and I always understood it to be something I can recover from and get back out there.”

Jones has been a noncontact participant in practise all week. “We’re not going to rule anything out right now,” coach Joe Judge said Wednesday morning. “Daniel is going to be out here practicing [Wednesday]. He’ll practice [Thursday] and Friday as well. We’ll see what he can do. … Really, a normal Wednesday for him.”
