Dwyane Wade Winner Was For Young Players & Fans

If that was the last game-winning basket of his career, then guard Dwyane Wade will be happy.

The retiring Miami Heat legend beat the buzzer to drag the Heat past the Golden State Warriors 126 – 125.

The Wednesday night game saw the Miami Heat lead the warriors by 24 points at one stage. Golden State rallied to a comeback 2 point lead and looked set to win the match. That’s until Dwyane Wade stepped up.

His one-footed three pointer with 1 second remaining was classic Dwyane Wade. After a blocked three point shot with 1.4 seconds left, he again collected the ball. He took one last shot for the game winning three.

Every moment of Wade’s farewell season is being amplified in that context. Wednesday night’s winner, though, was true greatness. Wade described it as ‘special’, and dedicated it to the Heat fans and young players.

“It’s special for me,” Wade said after the game. “Obviously as a team we needed this win bad, but we kept fighting, everybody. I’ve been in this position so many times, and so many times you don’t make the shot. And the one I make is a one-legged flick from my chest, it’s crazy. But great to do it in front of the fans. This is a fun moment.”

“I told Steph [Curry] I needed this one on my way out. So y’all get enough, you got enough. I think the one thing cool for me is to be able to do this when you’ve got younger teammates that heard about some of the things you do, but don’t always get an opportunity to see it. So it was cool to be able to do it in front of those guys as well.”
