K.J Wright In Linebacker Free Agency Wilderness

Decorated former Seahawks linebacker K.J Wright finds himself in a struggle to find the right team in free agency.

K.J Wright, a member of the famed ‘Legion of Boom’ in Seattle, has one Pro Bowl and one Super Bowl to his name.

He had expected to re-sign with the Seahawks over the Summer. However, the Seattle front office is waiting to see if a cheaper solution comes along.

The team is shifting towards a more defensive-back orientated set next season. As a result, they don’t need as much cover at linebacker.

“There is a chance, and I’m not closing the door on Seattle,” he said. Going into free agency, I thought it’d be a no-brainer, but they’re going to wait until training camp, so we’ll see.”

There are a number of former Seahawks defensive coaches working elsewhere in the NFL. Although like Seattle, not many are in the market for a veteran linebacker.

Dan Quinn is at the Cowboys, but the team is well stocked at linebacker. K.J Wright could still link up with Gus Bradley in Vegas, Robert Saleh in New York or Kris Richard in New Orleans.

“No matter what happens, my career in Seattle was just unforgettable,” Wright said.

“Ten years — had a lot of fun, got a Super Bowl, got a Pro Bowl, Seahawks Man of The Year. I did a lot of good stuff in that jersey. And so, hopefully, one day, they put me up in the Ring of Honor. We’ll see.

“But yeah, no matter what happens, just playing with Bobby and the Legion of Boom, those guys, that’s going to be historical. And I’m just thankful that I could be part of it. So we’ll see if I go back to Seattle, that’d be nice. If not, you know, I’m forever thankful.”
