Knicks Hope Carmelo Anthony Expands Wish List Of Trade Destinations Other Than Rockets, Cavs
The New York Knicks are trying to get things together after parting ways with Phil Jackson and recently bringing in Scott Perry as the team’s new general manager. One of the team’s priorities moving forward during the NBA offseason is sorting things out with superstar Carmelo Anthony and whether they will keep or trade the veteran forward.
It was expected that Anthony would be traded to the Houston Rockets. Carmelo was willing to waive his no-trade clause to make it happen and was looking forward to heading West to join James Harden and Chris Paul, but now it doesn’t look like it’ll happen.
Apparently, Steve Mills, who took over for Phil Jackson as team president, wants to speak with Anthony about his future. It appears the Knicks want him to consider trades to other destinations rather than the Cleveland Cavaliers and Rockets, according to Mark Berman of the New York Post:
According to the source, Knicks acting president Steve Mills wants to meet with Anthony to see where his head is at before proceeding any further.
The primary hope, according to the source, is Anthony decides to open up his wish list beyond the Rockets and Cavaliers, as he has a no-trade clause.
As the plot thickens in New York, Anthony’s immediate future continues to hang in the balance. The move to the Rockets would’ve been a game changer for Houston as they’d have a big three to build around while being another threat to the Golden State Warriors in the Western Conference.
Now it seems there’s no telling where Anthony might land. Much like with Paul George surprising being traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder, Anthony could end up with a team that no one saw coming before next season.
