LeBron James Not Recruiting Free Agents To Cavs This Summer
The Cleveland Cavaliers are arguably the second-best team in the NBA right now. LeBron James and company have gone to the NBA Finals three years in a row with the team winning in one of those three appearances.
Although the Cavs are expected to be in contention as long as LeBron is in uniform in Cleveland, the three-time NBA champion is not going recruiting for his team this summer. The superstar forward is sitting this one out, according to Dave McMenamin of ESPN:
LeBron James is not actively recruiting free agents on behalf of the Cavs as the franchise zeros in on its targets, a league source told ESPN on Saturday.
This, much like most news that has come out of Cleveland lately, is not a good look for the Cavs. The consensus around the league right now is James will only be playing for the Cavs for one more season as he may have grown tired of the drama within the organization and could be eager for a fresh start elsewhere.
James will become an unrestricted free agent next summer if he chooses to opt out of his contract with the Cavs which is set to pay him $35.6 million for the 2018-19 season. There’s been a lot of talk about LeBron wanting to make a move out west with the Los Angeles Lakers being a potential destination for the future Hall of Famer.
At this point, the Cavs brass can only hope James has a change of heart or simply doesn’t want to leave Cleveland for a second time. Cleveland is expected to run the table in the Eastern Conference once again next season, but will likely still be unable to get the best of the Golden State Warriors.
