LVH SuperBook’s 2013 SuperContest Almost Here

Football, big-time cash prizes, and bragging rights. Even alone, each of these things are awesome. But, together? Are you kidding me? If you score all three, then you can tip your hat to cheering throngs of admirers and strut off into the sunset, with your cash and pride, along with the experience of a lifetime (and feel great about it).

Well, guess what? If you’re a diehard pro football fan who knows the weekly spreads by heart before the morning paper lands on your doorstep—and are at least 21 years-old— you’ll get the opportunity to hit the ultimate trifecta of awesome beginning Monday, July 1.

Las Vegas Hotel and Casino’s SuperBook SuperContest is back for 2013 and LVH has sweetened the deal. Each week of the ’12-13 NFL season, contestants pick five pro games against the spread and at the end of the season the Top 30 handicappers are awarded cash prize based on ranking and the total pool of cash.

Last year, the top 20 contestants received a payout, so now all you ‘Wizards of the Spread’ have an even better chance to turn your handicapping skills into Benjamins…greenbacks…cabbage…or just cold hard cash.

Not that the winners from 2012’s SUPERCONTEST (Yep, I’m going all CAPS—all the way) are complaining. First place finisher “Al Sr.” (The first woman to claim top prize—holla!) collected $447,000 after a record 745 contest entries resulted in a cash prize pool of over $1.1 million.

This year’s prize pool will once again hinge on how many people enter, with LVH adding some of its own cash for a three-week mini-contest and bonus for anyone who picks over 67 percent of each week’s winners.

I’m not afraid to admit that the mathematical…nuances…of how the SuperContest divvies up the prize money—or what this year’s pool and payouts may look like—are not my strength. Trust me, if I had any involvement in devising this thing, chaos would ensue. I recommend you read the Sporting News’ breakdown of this year’s contest.

The final deadline to enter is 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 7. So, if you’re anything like me, foiled by Saturday morning deadlines and appointments, no matter how vested I am, then set about 500 staggered reminders on your smartphone (alarm set to Rush’s “Free Will”).
