Mac Jones excited at prospect of Patriots signing DeAndre Hopkins

Since the Arizona Cardinals surprisingly released star wide receiver, DeAndre Hopkins, he’s remained afloat in free agency. The All-Pro wideout has become a hot commodity across the league, but he appears to be moving toward finding his next NFL home. According to ESPN, Hopkins’ visit with the New England Patriots may lead to both sides working out a deal.

The Patriots have just completed minicamp, beginning about a one-month hiatus until team activities begin again. The potential of Hopkins landing in New England has quarterback Mac Jones excited about the scenario.

“I think DeAndre is a great player. You watch his film from college all the way through the NFL, he’s done a great job. So obviously we’d love to have him, but we do have a great group of guys,” Jones said at the start of the team’s mandatory minicamp this week via ESPN.

“I’ve been really pleased with the playmakers we have on the team; we’ve come out here and really bought into the system. We have a good group and I feel like we need to keep growing together and whoever is in that room, we’re going to try to dominate together.”

Hopkins could immediately step in as the Patriots’ top offensive weapon. New England has struggled to secure a top-level passing game option since Rob Gronkowski’s departure.

The Patriots would likely lean on Hopkins to be the primary offensive weapon as a result. It may be a matter of time before he inks his deal to mark the next chapter of his career with New England.
