Mara: Odell Beckham Jr. “Not Untouchable”
New York Giants owner John Mara refused to rule out trading star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. on Sunday.
Speaking at the annual NFL meetings in Orlando, he expressed his disappointment:
“It’s too often he allows himself to be put in bad situations and uses bad judgment. He knows what we expect of him and now it’s up to him. We certainly are not shopping him. Coming off 3-13 when we played as poorly as we did, I can’t say anyone is untouchable.â€
Odell Beckham Jr. was recently seen in a video in bed with a woman with what appeared to be a white substance. Although the timing of the video is questionable, it is yet another strike for an already controversial player.
He received a one-game suspension in 2015 for his on field rivalry with then-Panthers cornerback Josh Norman. Beckham was cited for egregious fouling.
In spite of this, he’s the New York Giants’ best attacking player. The 2014 offensive rookie of the year had had 288 receptions for 4,122 yards and 35 touchdowns in his first three seasons.

Odell Beckham Jr., who is in the 4th year of his 5-year rookie deal, missed 12 games last season due to an ankle injury. The negative headlines surrounding him could affect his ability to negotiate a new deal, according to Mara.
“First of all, I don’t know what was in that video exactly,†Mara said. “But I’ve said before that I’m tired of answering questions about Odell’s behavior and what the latest incident is. I think he knows what we expect of him, and now it’s up to him.
“Contracts get done when they’re supposed to get done. We’ll just have to see what happens,â€
Beckham will make around $8.5m this season, although he has stated his ambition to be the highest paid receiver in the NFL.
