May UFC Preview: Must Watch Fights

May is a big month for the UFC.  We have UFC on FX 8 and UFC 160 to look forward to.  Both those cards have some great matches for us to look forward to.  Here is a quick look at some of the big fights that you must watch this month.

Vitor Belfort vs Luke Rockhold – UFC on FX 8

This is a match that all MMA fans are excited about as it pits Luke Rockhold, former Strikeforce champion, against a UFC mainstay.   Rockhold will be making his UFC debut.  We will finally get to see if the Strikeforce can hang with the best middleweight fighters in the world.

Rockhold will be taking on Vitor Belfort.  Despite his age, Belfort has managed to stay relevant in the UFC.  He will be looking to win this fight in order to stay in the main event picture in the middleweight division.

The early odds for this fight are very close.  The moneyline slightly favors Rockhold, who has a -125 moneyline.  The moneyline for Belfort is at -105.

Cain Velasquez vs Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva – UFC 160

When Velasquez versus Bigfoot 2 for the Heavyweight Title was announced the MMA community a collectively rolled their eyes. The first time these two men stepped into the cage against each other at UFC 146 “Bigfoot” Silva was destroyed by Velasquez.  By the end of the fight Silva was a bloody mess.   Most expect the same thing to happen again.

The end result of Cain Velasquez vs Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva at UFC 146.

We are looking forward to this fight, however.  For one it is a heavyweight clash which is always entertaining.  Another reason is we are curious to see if Silva has improved.  Silva is talented fighter who has undoubtedly studied every moment of his previous fight where Velasquez annihilated him.  Silva could very well surprise us all in this fight.

Considering Velasquez’s last fight with Sliva it is no surprise to see him as a huge favorite to win this fight.  The money line for him is at -650.  The moneyline for Silva is set at +425.

Gray Maynard vs TJ Grant – UFC 160

While we are less pessimistic than most regarding the UFC 160 main event, we realize that their are better fights on the card.  Gray Maynard vs TJ Grant is in our opinion going to be the fight that steals the show.

This is going to be a vicious clash between two lightweight fighters in a very important match.  The winner of this fight will go on to challenge reigning champ Benson Henderson for the title at a later date.  We are going to see a great wrestling based fight between these two men that is going to be fun to watch.

The odds slightly favor Maynard with a -210 moneyline.  Grant’s money line is at +170.
