Weather Plays Havoc In N.L. East
If you like a lot of baseball being played, then Friday was not your day. Because of Tropical Storm Andrea, most of the N.L. East team’s games on Friday were postponed. The Miami Marlins and New York Mets were rained out and that game was rescheduled as part of a double-header in September. The Minnesota Twins and Washington Nationals game was also rained out. They will make that game up as part of a double-header on Sunday.
The Atlanta Braves were way on the other side of the country, far away from the storm where they took on the Los Angeles Dodgers. Yasiel Puig, the Cuban defector who is taking Los Angeles by storm, hit another home run on Friday. It was his fourth home run in his first five games in the big leagues. His sixth inning blast off Paul Maholm tied the score at 1-1. The Dodgers then won the game in the bottom of the 10th inning on a wild pitch that scored the winning run in their 2-1 win. It was the first walk off win of the season for the 27-33 Dodgers. The Braves dipped to 37-24.
The Philadelphia Phillies lost in much the same manner in a 5-4 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers. Aramis Ramirez singled home the winning run in the bottom of the ninth for the Brewers walk-off win. The loss snapped the Phillies five game win streak and dropped them to 31-31.
BetOnline has odds on today’s N. L. East games:
Miami Marlins at New York Mets– Marlins are +1.5 -125 and the Mets are -1.5 +105. Moneyline is Marlins +200 and the Mets are -215. Over/under is 6.5 with over -105 and under -115. Matt Harvey goes against Jose Fernandez which means the under is probably a good bet. Also, when Harvey pitches, that is a good time to bet the Mets. We will go with the Mets -1.5 and the under -115.
Philadelphia Phillies at Milwaukee Brewers- The Phils are +1.5 -195 and the Brewers are -1.5 +170 ATS. Moneyline is the Phillies +111 and the Brewers -121. Over/under is 8/5 with over +110 and -120. Kyle Kendrick is on the mound for the Phillies against Tom Gorzelanny for the Brewers. We dodn’t like the Brewers chances of winning two in a row. We’ll take the Phillies +111 and the over +110.
Minnesota Twins at Washington Nationals- Twins are +1.5 -135 and the Nats are -1.5 +115 ATS. Moneyline is the Twins +165 and the Nats -175. Over/under is 7.5 with over -105 and under -115. Gio Gonzalez goes today for the Nationals against Kevin Correia of the Twins. We like the Nats -175 and the over -105.
Atlanta Braves at Los Angeles Dodgers- Braves are -1.5 +120 while the Dodgers are +1.5 -140. Moneyline is the Braves -138 and the Dodgers +128. Over/under is 7.5 with over +100 and under -120. Kris Medlen pitches for the Braves while Stephen Fife goes for the Dodgers. We don’t like the Dodgers chances of beating the Braves twice in a row either. At some point, Puig has to have a game without a homer.
