76ers to pursue Kyle Lowry in sign-and-trade deal

The Toronto Raptors and star point guard Kyle Lowry appear to be on the verge of officially parting ways. The two sides came close to a parting of the ways before the NBA trade deadline. However, a deal didn’t come to fruition. Now it appears the Philadelphia 76ers will try to acquire him in the offseason.

According to Sam Amick of The Athletic, the 76ers intend on trying to make a sign-and-trade deal with the Raptors in the offseason.

“Sources say the Sixers still plan on pursuing him by way of a possible sign-and-trade.”

The Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat and 76ers were the three teams most linked to Lowry. The defending champions seemingly coming close to a deal but were reluctant to part ways with Talen Horton-Tucker.

As for Philadelphia, there’s been talk that Lowry actually preferred to play for Miami rather than return home to play alongside Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid. The Heat ultimately made a trade for Victor Oladipo in a deal with the Houston Rockets right before the deadline. This took them out of the race for the one-time NBA champion.

Out of respect to the Raptors, Lowry seems willing to make the sign-and-trade happen rather than sign with another team outright and leave Toronto with nothing in return. It’ll be interesting to see if the 76ers ultimately become his new team or if he decides to go elsewhere like the Heat or possibly even the Lakers if they can afford to take him on.
