Celtics hold team meeting in an effort to salvage the season

The 2020-21 NBA season has been forgettable, to say the least for the Boston Celtics. The storied franchise has been one of the best teams in the league the last few years. However for some reason, Jayson Tatum and company haven’t been able to put it together this year.

Boston is in the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference right now. In spite of this, the Celtics are barely hanging on to being .500 with a record of 21-21. Head coach Brad Stevens hasn’t been able to motivate this team to right the ship and become the title contender they are capable of being.

With that being said, Boston had a team meeting after the recent loss to the Sacramento Kings. Marcus Smart talked about the meeting, via ESPN.

“We just kind of sat in the locker room and we just really self-reflected on each other,” Smart said after the Celtics responded with a 112-96 victory over the Orlando Magic at Boston’s TD Garden on Sunday. “We asked each other, like I said, ‘How do we want to end the season? How do we want to be remembered for this season?’ Everybody agreed, this was a bad feeling and an ugly feeling that we are feeling and we don’t want to feel like this.

“We don’t want to look back on this season and be like, ‘Damn, we could have did this.’ We still have time. It’s not a lot, the margin for it is closing, but we still have time to fix it, and that’s what we are trying to do.”

The Brooklyn Nets, Philadelphia 76ers and Milwaukee Bucks are far and away the best teams in the conference, meaning the Celtics have a lot of work to do if they plan to contend with these heavyweights in the playoffs.

As a result of the team’s struggles, general manager Danny Ainge could make some drastic moves ahead of the NBA trade deadline on March 25. The team definitely needs a spark, and a trade might be exactly what it needs to get back on track as a legitimate force to be reckoned with on the basketball floor.
