Clippers star Paul George has no timetable for his return

The Los Angeles Clippers are on the doorstep of clinching a top-seed in the Western Conference playoff picture.

Ahead of Sunday’s season finale, the Clippers saw star forward Paul George take a step forward in his recovery from his sprained right knee.

George has reportedly started to exercise his knee, but there remains no timeline for his return. The Clippers are moving forward precautiously given the sensitivity of the injury.

He suffered the injury on March 21 against the Oklahoma City Thunder. George voided significant ligament damage but wasn’t able to begin the recovery process until this week.

Los Angeles is hoping to get George back at some point in the playoffs. It’s likely that he will miss the first round if the team manages to avoid the play-in tournament.

The Clippers sit in the driver’s seat to secure either the fifth or sixth seed. If they beat the Phoenix Suns on Sunday afternoon, it will avoid the possible necessity of another game or two to garner a playoff berth.

Los Angeles has played the 2022-23 season performing far below expectations. Much of this has been due to injuries to their star forwards, which have plagued them over the years since their respective arrivals.

George’s injury potentially puts him out of the mix through the first round of the playoffs. His absence places a greater significance on Kawhi Leonard to lead the charge.

Meanwhile, the Clippers will need the likes of Russell Westbrook and Norman Powell to take on increased scoring roles to provide balance behind Leonard.
