Luka Doncic won’t sit if Mavericks are still in playoff contention
As the regular season nears a close, the playoff seeding still remains in flux. The Dallas Mavericks sit on the outside looking in for the play-in tournament in the 11th spot due to the Oklahoma City Thunder holding the tiebreaker.
Despite that, star forward Luka Doncic voiced that he plans to continue to play if the Mavericks hold a shot at securing a play-in tournament spot.

“There’s little chance,” Doncic said via ESPN. “We all know that, but like I said, as long as there’s a chance, I’ll play.”
Dallas has stumbled since acquiring star point guard Kyrie Irving, holding an 8-15 recording, including losing seven out of their last nine contests. The Mavericks kept their postseason hopes alive after inching past the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday night.
However, Dallas’ chances lie out of their control due to the Thunder possessing the tiebreaker. The remaining two regular-season games will be played against the Chicago Bulls and San Antonio Spurs.
Meanwhile, the Thunder’s last two contests will be against the Utah Jazz and Memphis Grizzlies. Things still need to fall in the Mavericks’ favor, but as long as there remains a chance, Doncic and Irving will play.

Dallas hoped the acquisition of Irving would elevate them into NBA title contention, but that hasn’t been the case. The Mavericks took the chance to add a superstar talent but could face the realistic scenario of losing him in free agency this upcoming summer.
Much could still change, but the outlook ahead is looking bleak.
