Suns sign guard Grayson Allen to four-year, $70 million extension

Before the playoffs begin, the Phoenix Suns announced a four-year, $70 million extension with guard Grayson Allen.

Allen was in the final year of his contract, and the new deal effectively kept him in place for the long haul.

The Duke product put together a highly productive first campaign with Phoenix, where he averaged 13.4 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 3.1 assists while shooting career-best numbers with 49.9 percent from the field and a league-best 46.1 percent from beyond the arc while starting 74 of 75 games played.

His 205 made 3-pointers this year are tied for the second most in franchise history. Meanwhile, he finished behind Stephen Curry with seven games of at least eight made 3-pointers.

Allen proved his worth as a key offensive piece behind his efficient shooting and dependable scoring. He recorded his best single campaign and has cemented his place with the franchise’s long-term plans.

He has stepped up as a crucial supporting cast player alongside the Suns’ three All-Star talents Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal. Phoenix found much stability with him stepping up when any of their stars missed time while he proved to be a highly effective 3-point factor.

The Suns acquired Allen through the three-team trade that sent Damian Lillard to the Milwaukee Bucks. He spent his first season with the Grizzlies, two years with the Memphis Grizzlies, and two years with the Bucks.

Allen made the most of his opportunity in Phoenix in his contract year to earn himself a lucrative payday. Now he holds the chance to parlay that into becoming a key piece for the Suns moving forward.
