Warriors may be leaning toward drafting Anthony Edwards

The Golden State Warriors’ 2019-20 season took a disappointing step back due to numerous injuries.

However, the Warriors had the draft order move favorably in their direction, grabbing the second overall pick. There hasn’t been any clarity about what they will do with the selection, but Connor Letourneau of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that they could take Anthony Edwards.

The Warriors are believed to view Edwards as someone who can blossom into a face of a franchise and multi-time All-Star if put in the right situation. According to league sources, Golden State would likely take Edwards at No. 2 should Minnesota pass on him at No. 1.

His skill set makes him an ideal fit for the Warriors’ system. Unlike many top picks who are viewed as franchise saviors, Edwards could come off the bench as a rookie, knocking down spot-up jumpers, attacking closeouts, cutting, making the simple pass, and playing hard on defense.

Golden State is in a promising spot to add an intriguing young talent through the draft. Edwards could fit smoothly into the mix as an athletic guard, drawn to the future Hall of Famer Dwyane Wade.

The Warriors have also been linked to former Memphis big man James Wiseman. Much of this may be dictated by what direction the Minnesota Timberwolves will go at the top overall spot. The early expectation is that it could be between Wiseman and LaMelo Ball for that vaunted spot.

There has also been the notion both the Timberwolves and Warriors may entertain trading out of their selections.
