New England Patriots Seek Young QB To Complete Puzzle

The usually conservative New England Patriots have made a spending spree out of the 2021 NFL free agency period.

They’ve revamped their roster. However, the Patriots still have yet to fill the Tom Brady shaped hole under center.

With eight touchdown passes and ten interceptions, the Cam Newton experiment didn’t work out as they’d hoped.

As a result, the NFL world knows the New England Patriots are desperate to draft a young quarterback to complete the rebuild.

The clues are there in what they’ve already done in free agency. New England re-signed Cam Newton to a one year, $5 million deal, which could rise to $14 million.

That amount is exactly commensurate with that of a backup quarterback. From this we can infer that Bill Belichick wants another signal caller to compete with Newton right away.

According to NFL analyst Bucky Brooks, he has his eyes on Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields.

“I think the New England Patriots could be real aggressive,” Brooks said.

“We’ve seen the New England Patriots step outside their comfort zone as it relates to free agency. We saw them completely rebuild the roster with the number of signings and free agency. … I believe they’re about to go all in on an offensive makeover. The young quarterback is the final piece to the puzzle. And I think that quarterback will be an athletic quarterback.

“I keep an eye on somebody like Trey Lance or Justin Fields. Those are the two that would make sense for them to target. Hear a lot of rumors out there that they are really high on Justin Fields out of Ohio State. So, they’d have to (trade up) quite a ways to get Justin Fields.”
