NBA Rumors: Kings GM Vlade Divac Says Team Won’t Trade DeMarcus Cousins
One big-name player in the NBA that has been mentioned in trade rumors constantly over the last few years has been DeMarcus Cousins of the Sacramento Kings. Cousins’ long-term future in the league has been uncertain for a long time, but Kings general manager Vlade Divac decided to put an end to the rumors with the trade deadline looming.
According to Marc Stein of ESPN, Divac let it be known that Cousins isn’t going anywhere before the deadline later this month:
In his strongest public statement to date on the subject, Sacramento Kings general manager Vlade Divac told ESPN on Monday that All-Star center DeMarcus Cousins is going nowhere before the Feb. 23 trade deadline.
The most recent trade rumor involving Cousins had the Kings talking with the Phoenix Suns on a blockbuster deal. The rumored deal had Cousins going to Phoenix in exchange for T.J. Warren, Alex Len, and a first-round draft pick.
Obviously, if Divac is truly set on keeping Cousins past yet another trade deadline, this deal will not come to fruition.
Cousins has been linked to a number of different teams over the years including the Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics. Whether he eventually gets traded or the Kings sign him to a new long-term deal, remains to be seen.
Divac seems adamant that Cousins isn’t going anywhere, but these trade rumors continue to swirl. It’ll be interesting to see how it all pans out in Sacramento and if at some point they cut their losses and send Cousins elsewhere to start from scratch.
