NFL Rumors: Colin Kaepernick Not Expected To Sign With Seahawks

Colin Kaepernick’s time with the San Francisco 49ers has been officially over for quite some time now. Even during last season most believed his time with the team was done and now he’s looking for another home in the league without much luck so far.

Over the past week or so, there have been rumors of Kaepernick potentially signing with the Seattle Seahawks to be Russell Wilson’s backup at the quarterback position. Although it seemed to make sense, especially after he reportedly spent an extended amount of time with the team recently, the Seahawks appear to be moving on without signing the former 49ers star, via Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk:

Pat Kirwan of SiriusXM NFL Radio said today that he doesn’t expect the Seahawks to sign Kaepernick. That’s particularly noteworthy because Kirwan has a long and close relationship with Seahawks coach Pete Carroll, dating to their time together when Carroll was defensive coordinator and then head coach of the Jets from 1990 to 1994. Kirwan didn’t say Carroll was the source of his belief that Kaepernick won’t be a Seahawk, but it seems unlikely that Kirwan would have bad information about the team his old friend coaches.

Last season, the Seahawks struggled to protect Wilson, and if it weren’t for his remarkable mobility, the star gunslinger could’ve suffered serious injury. The offensive line is a major concern for the Seahawks and providing a viable backup for Wilson seems to be the way to go for head coach Pete Carroll and company.

As for Kaepernick, there’s no telling where the veteran might land. It seems as though he may continue being a free agent for the rest of the NFL offseason and possibly into the upcoming regular season. Kaepernick, like many other veteran quarterbacks looking for jobs, may have to wait to see if any opportunities open up in the regular season due to injuries.
