49ers rookie Trey Lance looking forward to learning from Jimmy Garoppolo
The San Francisco 49ers finally clarified their future plans under center after taking Trey Lance with the third overall pick in this year’s draft.
The move immediately shifted the attention to Jimmy Garoppolo’s response. The veteran quarterback continues to take the professional route by helping Lance get acclimated.

The North Dakota State product confirmed that notion by stating Garoppolo is one of the first players to reach out to him. (h/t Pro Football Talk)
“Yeah, I got to meet him over the last couple days, which was awesome — him and the rest of the quarterbacks in the room,” Lance said during his rookie minicamp press conference on Friday. “And they’re awesome — just awesome personalities, awesome guys to hang around, and, obviously, great football players. So I’m just thankful that these guys are the guys that they are.
“Jimmy actually sent that in his first text to me, that it’s going to be awesome to have another FCS guy in the room. So he’s another guy that’s obviously been in a similar position to me, having been where I am. So just looking forward to learning as much as I can from him and all the other guys in the room.”

Lance may be the 49ers’ future, but it hasn’t changed Garoppolo’s approach. He’s quickly embraced the mentorship role by guiding the 21-year-old along this offseason. His presence may play a pivotal part toward helping progress Lance along in his development.
All that speaks to Garopplo’s professionalism and strong character.
