5 top Super Bowl contenders in 2020

5. Seattle Seahawks

There are some questions about this roster heading into the summer. The secondary doesn’t appear to have much juice, specifically at cornerback. The pass-rush is also a concern with defensive tackle Jarran Reed giving them push on the interior, but the edges being weak without Jadeveon Clowney. Still, Russell Wilson remains an elite quarterback. He’s also surrounded by top weapons in receivers D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett, and tight end Greg Olsen.

Seattle will have plenty to say about the Super Bowl chase before all is said and done.

4. San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers were seven minutes away from winning Super Bowl LIV before the bottom fell out. While the team is without receiver Emmanuel Sanders and defensive tackle DeForest Buckner this year, they did add a pair of first-round picks at those spots in Brandon Aiyuk and Javon Kinlaw, respectively. If Jimmy Garoppolo can marginally improve on obvious passing downs, the 49ers would be the clear-cut team to beat in the NFC.

3. New Orleans Saints

Drew Brees is 41 years old. This is likely his last chance at Super Bowl glory before heading for the NBC broadcast booth. Luckily for him, New Orleans might have the best all-around roster in football. The offense is dotted with talented stars including receivers Michael Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders, tight end Jared Cook and running back Alvin Kamara.

While the defense has issues, it still has high-end players in cornerback Marshon Lattimore, defensive end Cameron Jordan and safety Marcus Williams. The Saints have to be considered a frontrunner in the NFC.

2. Baltimore Ravens

Last season, the Ravens went 14-2. They led the league in scoring behind MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson, who rattled off more than 1,200 rushing yards and 46 total touchdowns. Then, incredibly, Baltimore was throttled y the Tennessee Titans in the AFC Divisional playoffs.

While the Ravens’ defeat was shocking, the team should bounce back. The defense is loaded with Marcus Peters and Marlon Humphrey at corner, Earl Thomas at safety, Matt Judos and Calais Campbell rushing the quarterback and Patrick Queen manning the middle. Factor in Jackson, and Baltimore is loaded.

1. Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs are defending Super Bowl champs and return 20 of their 22 starters from last year’s team. Most importantly, they have Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid leading the charge, with Mahomes surrounded by elite weapons in Tyreek Hill, Mecole Hardman, Sammy Watkins, Travis Kelce, Damien Williams and rookie running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire.

Kansas City is clearly the best team in football entering 2020.
